CARILEC to host Renewable Energy Conference in St. Kitts

PRESS RELEASE – The Caribbean Electric Utility Services Corporation (CARILEC) prepares to host its 2016 CARILEC Renewable Energy Conference & Trade-show, in St. Kitts and Nevis.

The Conference is co-hosted by St. Kitts Electricity Company (SKELEC), and will run from September 11th to 15th at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort & The Royal Beach Casino under the theme ‘RE Ready…Are we REady?’.

The keynote speaker, President José María Figueres Olsen is the former president of the Republic of Costa Rica. In 2012, he was appointed by Sir Richard Branson as President of the Carbon War Room. President Figueres has received numerous international awards for his work in Sustainable Development including the first recipient of the Global Prize from the World Bank’s Global Environmental Fund for leadership and efforts for the environment. Mr. Figueres will address the delegates on September 11th at the official Opening Ceremony.

The Conference will provide a platform for energy leaders and experts to share experiences and exchange views on issues such as smart grid development, grid stability and renewable energy penetration rates. In an environment of learning, delegates identify solutions to emerging regional and global issues. In addition, a segment of the presentation sessions is dedicated to financial assistance, and delegates will be exposed to many opportunities for financing of renewable energy projects.

CARILEC understands the Project Financing challenges faced by Utilities and Governments, and has partnered with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Caribbean Clean Energy Program (CARCEP) to host a two hour U.S. Government Clean Energy Financing Forum on Monday, September 12th. This Forum will focus on “Accelerating financing for renewable energy in the Caribbean”.

Post training has also been scheduled on September 14 & 15th, focusing on Grid Integration & Integrated Resource Planning Tools and a one day Geothermal Seminar respectively. The event is attended by over fifteen (15) CARILEC member Utilities across the Caribbean, financiers, researchers, energy leaders, officials, planners and energy experts from government and private sectors, international organisations and academia. Over 80 delegates will converge on the island of St. Kitts to participate in this highly anticipated conference. (St Lucia News Online)
