CARICOM Youth Ambassador gives back

April 1st, 2015  --  In a very brief yet meaningful ceremony, CARICOM Youth Ambassador, Ms. Sonia Boddie officially presented a gift donation of a stove, to the Home Economics Centre, of her Alma Mater, the Cayon High School, on Tuesday March 31st, to the delight of teachers and students.

During her presentation, Ms.Boddie remarked, “The school’s motto states, ‘Non Multa Sed Multum’, which means ‘Not Quantity, but Quality’, so today I am here to present one stove of a very good quality to the school.” She also highlighted, “It is with great pride that I make this donation to an institution that has played such a pivotal role in my development as a young woman. I attribute a lot of who I have become today, to the guidance and wisdom shared with me by teachers of the Cayon High.
 
The Home Economics Centre, holds a special place in my heart, as this was my “home away from home”, while attending school here, as the Home Ec teachers always made me feel welcomed and always gave me sound words of advice and encouragement, especially Mrs. Pearline Nisbette, who was my Home Ec teacher for the five years I attended school here. Therefore, today I wish to echo the words of the School Song which states, “Praise ye the Lord for this school in North St.Christopher, may it serve this nation well”, as it has certainly served me well. Ms. Boddie also highlighted that the stove would be of a great benefit to the school, as it can also be used to prepare items for Sports Day and even to make tea, if a child becomes ill.
 
Principal, Mr. Addison James praising Ms. Boddie for her generous donation remarked, “We at the Cayon High School are very proud and happy that Ms. Boddie has returned to make such a significant donation to the school. It is my prayer therefore; that other past students would take a feather out of Ms. Boddie’s cap, and find ways to give back to the school as well.”
 
Teacher currently in charge of the Home Economics Centre, Ms. Sylvia Archibald thanked Ms. Boddie stating, “Ms. Boddie we called upon you and you delivered on your promise. Thank you very much for addressing a major need that we had here at the Home Economics Centre. We are extremely grateful for your very timely contribution and I assure you that the stove would be put to good use, teaching students how to prepare delicious meals. May the Lord continue to bless you.”
 
Now retired Home Economics teacher Mrs. Pearline Nisbette,  as well as other members of staff and students were on hand to witness the presentation of the stove, which was nicely decorated with the school’s colors. Students also prepared delicious snacks for the ceremony.
