CARICOM to hold CSME Labour Stakeholders Workshop

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)    Employers’ and workers’ associations from across the Region will  be sensitized and updated on the CSME regimes for free movement of skills and labour, at a major regional CARICOM and Single Market and Economy (CSME) Labour Stakeholders Workshop, in Dominica, on 10 and 11 November 2014.
The two-day workshop which is being convened by the CARICOM Secretariat will also apprise participants of ongoing work with regard to social security issues that affect both workers and employers. The workshop is being hosted with the assistance of the European Union under the 10th European Development Fund (EDF).


In addition to the CSME free movement of skills and labour regimes, the workshop will discuss  the development of the Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) in Member States, the proposal for a harmonised classification of occupations for CARICOM Member States and the harmonization of labour legislation among Member States.

The International Labour Organization (ILO) will  share its knowledge of The Social Dialogue Mechanism with participants as they consider issues surrounding social security. Resource persons and presenters for this important workshop have been drawn from the CARICOM Secretariat, the University of the West Indies (UWI), the ILO and HEART-Trust in Jamaica.
Approximately 25 representatives from CSME participating Member States are expected to attend the two-day workshop ending on Tuesday.
The Community Strategic Plan (2015-2019 identifies, among other areas for priority focus , the accelerated implementation of the CSME, building competitiveness and unleashing key economic drivers to transition to growth and  to generate employment  and the development of human capital.
