KINGSTON, Jamaica - CARICOM has supported Jamaica's hosting of the regional meeting of the Conference of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in June this year. The meeting is part of the preparatory process for the third summit of SIDS to be held in Samoa next year. Recalling that Jamaica had piloted a special declaration on SIDS in the context of the recent Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) in Santiago, Chile, in January this year, Foreign Minister Senator A J Nicholson emphasised that "as a region, we have been pressing the need for continued co-operation and commitment to the global development agenda for SIDS as a special group".
