Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, has extended “heartiest congratulations” to Usain Bolt and Elaine Thompson on their respective victories in the Rio Olympics 100 meters races, noting that CARICOM was elated.

 “CARICOM is elated over this historic performance of Mr. Bolt who became the first man to win three consecutive Olympic titles at the distance.”

He lauded Ms. Thompson for “continuing the fine tradition of her country’s female sprinters and ensuring that the title remained in Jamaica for the third Olympiad in succession.”

 “Her performance is further testament to the depth of world class talent that the Community possesses,” he added.

The CARICOM Secretary-General stated that Usain Bolt continues to demonstrate that within the Caribbean Community, “we have the capacity to lead the world,” noting that his remarkable feat is testimony to hard work, commitment and a determination to be the best that one can be.

That his achievements have been accomplished entirely with coaching from his country Jamaica is an immense source of pride, Ambassador LaRocque said.

CONGRATULATORY MESSAGE FROM THE SECRETARY-GENERAL OF THE CARIBBEAN COMMUNITY, AMBASSADOR IRWIN LAROCQUE TO  MR. USAIN BOLT ON HIS VICTORY AT THE 2016 RIO OLYMPICS

 

On behalf of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), I extend heartiest congratulations to Mr. Usain Bolt on his victory in the 100 metres at the Rio Olympics 2016.  I also congratulate Ms. Elaine Thompson on her splendid victory in the women’s 100 metres.

 CARICOM is elated over this historic performance of Mr. Bolt who became the first man to win three consecutive Olympic titles at the distance.  He continues to demonstrate that, within our Caribbean Community, we have the capacity to lead the world.

 His remarkable feat is testimony to hard work, commitment and a determination to be the best that one can be.  That Mr. Bolt’s achievements have been accomplished entirely with coaching from his country Jamaica is an immense source of pride.
