Sep 05, 2015

CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque was on hand on Saturday to welcome a special flight with relief supplies for Dominica donated by members of the Guyana Private Sector Commission (PSC).

Ambassador LaRocque was joined by Dominica’s National Security, Justice and Immigration  Minister Hon. Rayburn Blackmoore to receive the donations of medical supplies, generators, cleaning items and cash, generously provided by New Guyana Pharmaceutical Company, Gaico Construction and General Services Inc., National Hardware, Demerara Tobacco Co Ltd and CAMEX. JAG Aviation of Guyana provided the humanitarian relief flight to transport the items.

Tropical storm Erika hit Dominica with torrential rains on Thursday August 27, which left more than 30 persons dead and hundreds homeless, and caused extensive damage to the country’s infrastructure. The Government has declared nine special disaster areas.

Ambassador LaRocque is in Dominica for a first hand assessment of the damage and to lend support to the on-going recovery and rebuilding process.
