CARICOM Leaders and US in Energy Summit in Washington

During their one-day stay in Washington, the CARICOM Heads of Government will also engage in a follow up meeting with the Vice President to gauge progress on the issues agreed to during their meeting in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago in May 2013. Their day will begin with a breakfast discussion on climate change issues with the US.

Keynote addresses at the opening of the Energy Security Summit will be delivered by CARICOM Chairman, the Rt Honourable Perry Christie, Prime Minister of The Bahamas and Vice President Biden. The Summit format includes three panel discussions with CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque participating in the panel on “Public Sector Catalysing International Finance”. That panel also includes President of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), Dr Warren Smith, President of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Mr Luis Moreno and the Honourable David Anderson, Parliamentary Secretary to the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The other panels are “Overcoming Barriers to Investment” and “Comprehensive Approaches to Energy Transformation”.  Dr the Honourable James Fletcher, Minister of Public Service, Sustainable Development, Science, Energy and Technology of Saint Lucia and Chairman of CARICOM’s Task Force on Sustainable Development is scheduled to participate in the latter panel.
