(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Secretary-General of CARICOM, His Excellency Edwin Carrington has congratulated His Excellency Bharrat Jagdeo, the President of Guyana on his recent re-election to the post following his success at the 28 August general elections in Guyana.

The message reads:

“Excellency,

On behalf of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), and on my own behalf as Secretary-General, I extend sincerest congratulations to you on your re-election to the Presidency of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana. Your re-election to this high office demonstrates the confidence of the people of Guyana in your stewardship and that of your Party, the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C), to steer your country into the future. This clear mandate will no doubt bolster your confidence as you seek to enhance the country’s development.

The Community looks forward to working with you and the Government of Guyana to further deepen and strengthen the integration process. Your special leadership role in the area of agriculture, in which you have been providing invaluable guidance, would be decisive in the Region’s achievement of its objectives.

Please accept, Excellency, my best wishes for your personal well-being and the prosperity, stability and security of your country.”
