Caribbean Climate Risk Brief Launched

The Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre announces the publication of the Caribbean Climate-Fragility Risk Brief. The Brief describes the climate of the Caribbean, provides examples of major extreme events that have affected the region and details how climate change may exacerbate future events. The impacts of climate change on the major economic sectors are described and how these could impact society, economies, governance, migration and citizen security. The paper concludes with suggestions of how governments and society could address these risks.

Mr. Carlos Fuller, International and Regional Liaison Officer of the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre was commissioned by adelphi, an independent think tank and public policy consultancy on climate, environment and development, to draft the Caribbean Risk Brief. It is one of a series of Regional Risk Briefs and Factsheets authored by the Climate Security Expert Network, which is comprised of approximately 30 international experts and supports the Group of Friends on Climate and Security and the Climate Security Mechanism of the United Nations system. Minister Niels Annen, Minister of State in the German Foreign Office referenced the Brief in his statement at the High-Level Panel on Green Alliance: Building bridges with the Caribbean for resilience held on 15^th December.

The Caribbean Climate-Fragility Risk Factsheet and Brief are available on the CCCCC website (www.caribbeanclimate.bz) and is another source of information on how climate change is affecting the Caribbean.
