CARICOM SG and Institutions discuss the impacts of declining international development assistance

Executive Directors and other senior officials of Caribbean Community Institutions have updated Secretary-General Dr. Carla Barnett about the adverse effect of the current geopolitical developments on their ability to deliver essential services to the Region.

The developments were highlighted during a virtual meeting which the Secretary-General convened with Executive Directors and other senior officials of Community Institutions on Tuesday, 29 April.

CARICOM delegation at ICAO meeting in Qatar

A delegation from the CARICOM Secretariat is in Doha to participate in the 2025 International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Facilitation Conference in Doha, Qatar, from 14 - 17 April. The delegation comprises Ambassador David Prendergast, Director Sectoral Programmes and Dr. Pauline Yearwood, Deputy Programme Manager, Transportation.

LIAT looks to minimum revenue guarantees for viability - CARICOM Business

The Antigua and Barbuda government says every territory to which the cash-strapped regional airline, LIAT, flies to will be asked to purchase shares in the new company as efforts continue to revitalise the embattled airline.

In a statement, the Government noted that “in the proposed new LIAT, the
salaries, wages and other emoluments will take up a smaller part of its cost of operations. Currently, three aircraft are being utilised, as opposed to 10 aircraft before the collapse of LIAT.”

SG calls for distinct CARICOM representation on ICAO

Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque on Wednesday called for a distinct CARICOM voice among the 36 seats on the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s Council.

Delivering remarks at the opening of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Air Transport Conference at the Guyana Conference Centre on 21 November 2018, the Secretary-General said CARICOM Member States, which are Members of ICAO represent a distinct geographical grouping and, “request a seat on that basis.”
