CARICOM BUREAU MAKES RECOMMENDATION ON HAITI

The Bureau of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) - comprising the Chairman (the Prime Minister of Grenada), the Immediate Past Chairman (the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda), the Next Chairman (the President of Suriname) and the Secretary-General - has arrived at a recommendation on the Community's relations with the Interim Administration of Haiti.

It is a singular honour for Antigua and Barbuda to host this historic meeting of the Bureau of Heads of Government. As the newest kid on this block, I beg your indulgence should any lapses into local realities during my remarks be seen as representing any affront to protocol.

CARICOM BUREAU MEETS IN BARBADOS

The Fifteenth Meeting of the Bureau of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) takes place on Monday, November 11, in Bridgetown, Barbados.

The Bureau comprises of the Chairman, President Bharrat Jagdeo of Guyana, Prime Minister Said Musa of Belize,(the immediate past chairman); Prime Minister Pierre Charles of Dominica (the incoming chairman); and the Secretary-General, Mr Edwin Carrington.

STATEMENT BY THE BUREAU OF THE CONFERENCE OF HEADS OF GOVERNMENT ON THE REGION’S RESPONSE TO THE POLITICAL SITUATION IN TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO

The Bureau of the Conference of Heads of Government met in Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands on 10-11 January 2002 and considered the current political situation in Trinidad and Tobago.

The Members of the Bureau expressed the concern felt throughout the Community at the present situation and were anxious to see a return to normalcy in that key Community Member State. They also felt that the Community owes it to the people of Trinidad and Tobago and to the wider Caribbean Community as well, to do whatever lies within its capacity to help bring about that normalcy.
