Safety, security in Regional aviation to be harmonised- Guyana sets stage for robust sector

Matters pertaining to security and safety in the aviation sector for the Caribbean Region are currently being discussed as the Caribbean Aviation Safety and Security Oversight System’s (CASSOS) Board of Directors holds its 17th Meeting in Georgetown, Guyana.

CASSOS is the Region’s aviation oversight organisation. It is aimed at facilitating the growth and development of aviation through training, resource sharing, harmonisation of policies and procedures among other areas.

Demand for new aircraft in Caribbean to reach 2,300 by 2033

Herdon, Nov. 17, CMC - A report by Airbus has forecast that the Latin America and Caribbean regions will require around 2,300 new airliners by 2033.

This is according to the latest Global Market Forecast (GMF) by Airbus that says this will be driven by strong economy and expected air traffic growth.

Airbus predicts that the total value of new airplanes would be around US$292 billion.

CTO official says more needed to improve regional aviation sector

ST. THOMAS, United States Virgin Islands, Sept 17, CMC – The outgoing chairman of the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), Beverly Nicholson-Doty, says while some progress is being made, much more needs to be achieved to resolve long-standing concerns of the regional aviation sector.

Nicholson-Doty, who is also the United States Virgin Islands (USVI) Commissioner, told regional tourism ministers and other stakeholders that while the Aviation Task Force had done much over the past two years, there was still much to be done.

Caribbean Aviation Safety and Security Oversight System- (CASSOS)

CASSOS was formally launched in February 2009 at the Headquarters of the CARICOM Secretariat in Guyana. CASSOS succeeds RASOS, with functions that been redefined and are broader in scope to include all the annexes to the Convention on International Civil Aviation (Chicago, 1944), commonly called ICAO Annexes.
