BELMOPAN, Belize, CMC – The Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) says 12 babies have died during the month so far and it has launched an investigation to determine whether the deaths were due to an infection outbreak.
In a statement, the hospital said that the investigation is to “determine whether this is an outbreak of hospital-based (nosocomial) infection and if so, what is its source”.
The babies were all confined to the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) after being born at the health institution.
