Attorney hails moves in US to legalise online gambling

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC – The lead counsel for Antigua and Barbuda in the ongoing Internet gaming dispute with the United States, says the island could benefit from moves by American legislators to legalise online gambling within the United States borders. “This is of considerable benefit to us …It vindicates what we have said all along,” said Mark Mendel, referring to the new legislation introduced by US Congressman Peter King in June. If passed, The Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection and Enforcement Act of 2013 would federally legalise online gambling in the US. It would also allow US states, including New Jersey, Delaware and Nevada, all of which have legalised internet gambling, in some form, to continue to offer these services.
