Both the public and private sectors must play their roles in order for the Region’s agricultural sector to achieve its full potential, Ambassador Dr. Manorma Soeknandan, Deputy Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) said Wednesday.
The Deputy Secretary-General made the point as she delivered remarks at the official opening of the Caribbean Week of Agriculture (CWA) 2014, in Paramaribo, Suriname. The CWA is being held at the Suriname Chamber of Commerce.

AN JOSE, Costa Rica, Jun 16, - CMC – The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) says it is supporting institutions involved in pesticides registration in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) try to generate data that make it possible for them to promote maximum residue levels (MRL) for small scale crops in the region.
It said the project will allow the institutions to adjust to the consumption patterns of the inhabitants of each country.
SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, Jun 4, CMC - The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) says it will cooperate with the Regional Office for the Americas of the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA-Americas) to promote and strengthen agricultural and agro-industrial cooperatives in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).
In a landmark decision the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) endorsed the new Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests in the Context of National Food Security on 11 May 2012. FAO launched a major fund-raising campaign with the aim of securing USD 20 million to translate into action the guidelines, aimed at helping governments safeguard the rights of people to own or access land, forests and fisheries.
