(Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation) As the 50th anniversary date for the 15-member grouping, CARICOM, draws near Barbados has kicked off its local activities to mark the day.
Activities in Member States will be observed under the theme ’50 Years Strong: A Solid Foundation to Build On’.
Barbados’ Ambassador to CARICOM, David Comissiong, says the island will be celebrating the milestone for a whole year.
CARICOM was established on July 4, 1973, with the signing of the Treaty of Chaguaramas by founding fathers, Prime Ministers Errol Barrow for Barbados; Forbes Burnham for Guyana; Michael Manley for Jamaica; and Dr. Eric Williams for Trinidad and Tobago.
