The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat is the Caribbean Hub of the Programme for Capacity Building Related to Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) in African, Caribbean and Pacific Countries, known as the ACP-MEAs Programme.
Georgetown, Guyana (April 23, 2018) – Caribbean development partners and beneficiaries of the Hub and Spokes Programme, an aid-for-trade initiative, began a three-day regional planning workshop (April 23 – 25), with appreciation of the programmes tangible impact on the ground. The workshop is being held at the Guyana Marriott Hotel Georgetown, Guyana.
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – The Georgetown Agreement, which was signed in the capital of Guyana in 1975, bringing into being the African Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group, is undergoing a wide-ranging revision that could result in the 79-member grouping being referred to as the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACP).
Last week, diplomats from the ACP region met for a special session of the Committee of Ambassadors of the ACP Group of States to examine proposals from the region to “inform a fundamental Revision of the Georgetown Agreement.”

KINGSTON, Jamaica, Thursday June 30, 2016 – A University of the West Indies (UWI) forum held yesterday to discuss the impact of the UK’s pending exit from the European Union brought some advice for CARICOM – prepare for the potential fallout. At the same, there’s a suggestion that there won’t be any crisis.
During the forum, the UWI Vice Chancellor Sir Hilary Beckles offered recommendations to CARICOM in response to the development, popularly referred to as Brexit.
Thank you for inviting me to be here with you this morning to share a few thoughts. I believe that it is the first time I have interacted with you but I am confident it will not be the last. May I congratulate you on the occasion of your 25th Anniversary and that milestone emphasises the relevance of your work.
Although it was established 40 years ago, the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP) is still relevant today says secretary general Dr Patrick Ignatius Gomes.
Guyanese-born Dr Gomes, who is in T&T for a few days before flying back on Tuesday to Brussels, Belgium, where the ACP headquarters is located, said the ACP was trying to shift from a dependency syndrome.
Now ten months into his five-year term at the ACP, Dr Gomes said his experience as secretary-general has so far been encouraging, demanding, challenging and interesting.
