Regional statisticians and agriculture stakeholders are participating in a workshop in Trinidad and Tobago aimed at building capacity to measure and monitor food security and nutrition (FSN).
Youth in agriculture took centre stage on Tuesday 28 January as the winners of the CARICOM High School Agriculture Video Competition 2024 were recognised for their interest and submissions.
“This project has a lot of potential to transform the Guyanese economy and the entire industry within CARICOM. One of the things that I like about the project is the integration of the community and the fact that the community [of Moblissa] is also being included and lifted up. I am also very happy to see today that Vision 25 x 2025 is not just a soundbite, it has underpinned this company’s goal and is part of their overall strategy.”
The President of Guyana is confident that the investments in agriculture, policy formulation and the dedication of CARICOM Heads of Government will lead to success in reducing the Region’s high food import bill.
Veterinarians continue to be at the forefront of the Region’s quest to reduce its food import bill by 25 per cent by 2025.

The populace of the Caribbean Community is encouraged to take advantage of a multi-billion market opportunity to create new industries that will lead to new economic prospects, intra-regional trade and cross-border investments.
Shaun Baugh, CARICOM Programme Manager, Agricultural and Agro-Industrial Development, referenced the multi-billion-dollar opportunity as he explained how the Region intends to achieve its goal of reducing its US$6B food imports by 25 per cent by 2025.
The 25 by 25 Initiative is geared towards reducing regional food imports by 25% by the year 2025 and prioritizing food and nutrition security.
