CONFERENCE ON THE CARIBBEAN REGION SEEKS MATURE PARTNERSHIP WITH US

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) CARICOM is approaching next week’s Conference on the Caribbean as the start of a new process of engagement between the Region and the United States.

More than 100 Caribbean officials will be in Washington for the Conference to be held in Washington DC from 19-21 June, and 700 persons have already registered. The highpoint is expected to be a meeting between the CARICOM Heads of Government and the President of the United States on Wednesday 20 June.

SPECIAL COHSOD MEETS ON HEALTH

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) A Special Meeting of the CARICOM Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD) on Health will be convened at the offices of the Pan American Health Organisation, Caribbean Office, Bridgetown, Barbados on 15 June 2007.

CONFERENCE ON THE CARIBBEAN: US COMMERCE SECRETARY CARLOS GUTIERREZ TO SPEAK AT OPENING CEREMONY

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Prime Minister of Barbados the Rt Honourable Owen Arthur and United States Commerce Secretary Mr. Carlos Gutierrez will deliver the keynote addresses on behalf of CARICOM and the United States respectively, at the Plenary Opening Ceremony of the Conference on the Caribbean which begins in Washington DC on 19 June 2007.

It was stated earlier, in error, that the keynote address on behalf of the United States would have been delivered by US Secretary to the Treasury Henry Paulson Jr.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)  The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat wishes to thank Mr. Bryn Pollard for his letter to the Editor, Stabroek News on Saturday, 9 June 2007 entitled `National Committees are Vital to the Implementation of the Charter of Civil Society’. In stating that “Article 4 of the Charter mandates every Member State adopting the Charter to establish a National Committee”, he makes the seminal point. The rest, including the composition and functions of the Committee follows.
