Digicel (Guyana) helps promote ICT among Guyanese girls

Digicel (Guyana) teamed up with the country's National Frequency Management Unit (NFMU) and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) headquarters to promote and observe 'Girls in ICT Day', the phone company said in a statement.

'Girls in ICT' is an initiative of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and is a global effort to raise awareness on empowering and encouraging girls and young women to consider studies and careers in Information Communication Technologies  (ICTs).

Celebrating Girls in ICT - Girls Can Do It Too!

Port of Spain, 29/4/15  - Over 130 girls of the Bishop's Centenary College were introduced to the limitless possibilities for women in ICTs to commemorate International Girls in ICT Day. The initiative is backed by International Telecommunication Union (ITU) member states to create a global environment that empowers and encourages girls and young women to consider careers in the burgeoning field of information and communication technologies (ICTs). The theme for 2015 was: "Girls and Women and Innovation".

In observing this day with you – we show continued solidarity with the  United Nations and the International Telecommunications Union’s (ITU’s) call for action to empower women and girls to meet their goals and aspirations by using and also becoming an active part in delivering success in Information Communications Technology.

Guyana observes Int’l Day of Girls in ICT

International Day of Girls in ICT is observed to help inspire girls to consider a future in technology.
Guyana’s observance of Girls in ICT Day 2013 was centred around a symposium and mini job fair which was hosted at the Guyana International Conference Centre on Thursday.
Over 300 female secondary school students were in attendance at the event to listen to mostly female ICT professionals speak about their experiences and expectations working in the ICT sector.
